Recommendations for Advancing the Resistance Exercise Overtraining Research

چکیده

Short-term periods of increased resistance exercise training are often used by athletes to enhance performance, and can induce functional overreaching (FOR), resulting in improved physical capabilities. Non-functional (NFOR) or overtraining syndrome (OTS), occur when demand is applied for prolonged without sufficient recovery. Overtraining (OT) describes the imbalance between recovery, diminished performance. While research into effects OT has gathered attention from sports scientists recent years, current landscape heterogeneous, disparate, underrepresented literature. To date, no studies have determined a reliable physiological psychological marker assist early detection NFOR OTS following OT. The purpose this work highlight conceptual methodological limitations within some literature, propose directions future understanding.

Pituitary-adrenal-gonadal responses to high-intensity resistance exercise overtraining.

Weight-trained men [OT; n = 11; age = 22.0 +/- 0.9 (SE) yr] resistance trained daily at 100% one-repetition maximum (1-RM) intensity for 2 wk, resulting in 1-RM strength decrements and in an overtrained state. A control group (Con; n = 6; age = 23.7 +/- 2.4 yr) trained 1 day/wk at a low relative intensity (50% 1 RM). After 2 wk, the OT group exhibited slightly increased exercise-induced testost...

Overtraining, Exercise, and Adrenal Insufficiency.

Running, or any aerobic training in moderation, has a positive effect on health. There is a point of diminishing returns, where chronic stress from overtraining, which is common in runners, may be linked to problems in the adrenal gland. Overtraining Syndrome (OS) has been linked with adrenal insufficiency. There is a direct link between stress and the adrenal glands, and the physical stress of...

ISSN Exercise & Sport Nutrition Review: Research & Recommendations

Sports nutrition is a constantly evolving field with hundreds of research papers published annually. For this reason, keeping up to date with the literature is often difficult. This paper is a five year update of the sports nutrition review article published as the lead paper to launch the JISSN in 2004 and presents a well-referenced overview of the current state of the science related to how t...

Recommendations for Advancing Health Literacy Measurement

Health literacy has become a national priority in the United States. Although less is known about the rate, outcomes, and costs associated with health literacy globally relative to the United States, the subject has received increasing attention internationally as well. Definitions, conceptual models, and health literacy measures have proliferated in recent years, and consensus does not exist r...
